LAMC Aims to Make the Temperature Rise on the Hottest Day of the Year

Ana Tijoux en el LAMC 2010 Nueva YorkA heatwave in NYC does not stop the crowds from swarming to the festivities of Summerstage in Central Park.  God bless Jack Daniels for providing the beautiful women in stilettos, for serving us free ice cold whiskey at the side of the stage.
LAMC presents a diverse lineup of solid artist this week and kicks the Summerstage Stage show off with Chile's own rapper delight, Anita Tijoux.  Her disciplined flow, is reminiscent of MCs like MC Lyte while delivering a contagious vocal style that is similar to Nelly Furtado.  With songs like "1977" & "Partir de Cero", she definitely proves her confidence is in her lyrics and not relying on her sexual image that we find with the more mainstream U.S. female rappers of today.  After her performance, I was able to grab her for a few minutes to ask what her thoughts were on the subject. Has the industry pressured her to swap the Adidas jumpsuit for a studded bra and panty yet? Ana laughed and replied,  "No one should try to be anything they are not.  I don't do it because I like to be comfortable". Ana is absolutely comfortable on stage with great songs but even with her amazing lyrical skills, the audience seemed initially a little disconnected from her performance.  She possesses a laid back style that is perfect for intimate settings but for such a big open space, in the middle of Central Park with NYC as the backdrop, the stage felt empty at times.  However, the crowd went wild, dancing and sweating during the songs where she brought out the conga player and performed with the live instrument.  I can definitely see her adding a band along with her DJ & hypeman, for these outside festival settings.
El Guincho jammed on the stage with his baby blue booty shorts and a band that created an exciting collision course of tropical, latin grooves, hip hop & afro-beats guaranteed to get you ready for that amazon rave you always dreamed about.  He followed Ms. Tijoux and took the energy from easy riding to a tour de force in a matter of a nano second.  I also appreciated this band from Spain's interesting mix of percussions & beats.  This band makes even the stiffest person discover their own rhythm and get them moving. There's warehouse in Brooklyn, where a gumbo pot of various artists, scantily clad women (and men) who probably been dancing for three days on no sleep, who would appreciate such a band.

Ana Tijoux will aslo be touring the West coast with a series of performances in Califoria and DC
